Notes

Stavros, with Orphano Bay in the background.

In the centre of the picture, partly obscured by trees, are three ships at anchor.

Directly in the middle of the photo is a hospital ship, painted white and with its red cross clearly visible close to the bow.

To the right of centre is a British monitor, with the shape and positioning of the tripod mast and funnel indicating the ship is one of the Abercrombie class, which carried two 14 inch (35.5 cm) guns in a single turret – partly visible above the tree line.

Almost completely obscured by the trees in the mid-foreground is a third vessel, just below the hospital in the centre of the photo, one of the M15 class, equipped with a single 9.2 inch (23.3 cm) gun in a forward turret as its main armament.

Thanks to information provided by Paschalis Palavouzis, all three vessels have been identified with the hospital ship being the HMHS Galeka, the Abercrombie class monitor the HMS Raglan, and the smaller monitor being HMS M18.

(Thanks to Paschalis Palavouzis for correcting the previous caption for this photo and for the additional information provided.)
